Abstract:
History of riverine floods dates back to 1950 just three years after its inception when Pakistan faced deadliest flood of its history. Since then country has been trying to fight this menace by enforcing flood and water management techniques through different governmental and nongovernmental bodies. Although a lot of study at local and international level has been carried out in past, however starting from 1950 till 2016 Pakistan has faced 22 riverine floods and losses measured are enormous. A lot has also been done in the field of disaster management and especially after the devastated earthquake of 2008 which shacked the history of Pakistan with respect to its disaster management capacity. In past although the study has been conducted, however there has not been a proper model with respect to cohesion between organizations and, flood adaptation, mitigation and response efforts which could minimize damage. The damages cause eve time are huge. The study was conducted on 2014 flood in Chenab river which effected different cities of Punjab. Target respondents in this case were different flood effecters of Bhawana town of district chiniot and different flood disaster management authorities including armed forces and NDMA. Total 198 response were received. The result of the study showed that environmental effects and administrative/ managerial issues have negative effects of flood devastation when they are actively supported by lack of resources, management and cohesion. This research mainly revolves around riverine floods and Limited to find out Causes of River borne floods specifically in Punjab province in the aftermath of2014 flood in Chenab River.
