dc.description.abstract Population growth and urbanization are solely responsible for high generation of solid waste which is a major environmental problem around the world. The present study was carried out in different sectors of Islamabad such as F-7 sector, I-8 sector, Iqbal town and Ghauri town. In this study the methods of waste disposal and household awareness level were assessed. The study was based on primary data collection by distributing the self- designed questionnaires among community. A sample size of ten was taken from each sector. Excel and data sheets were used for graphical representation of gathered data. It was examined that the well- developed sectors such as F-7 and I-8 have the proper disposal mechanism whereas the residents of Ghauri and Iqbal town dump their waste in open spaces. The reason found was the performance of management authorities who are more responsible in well- developed areas and ensure proper disposal of waste whereas other areas of Islamabad were neglected by management authorities. Regarding the awareness level, it was observed that majority of people of Islamabad are aware of solid waste disposal. In summary, 80 % of people from Islamabad are aware of solid waste management and its adverse effects on the environment and future generations. We also found that 70% of the people in Islamabad practice proper disposal of household waste and 60 % of the people have access to the solid waste collection facility en_US
