Abstract:
The thesis finding represents the 2D seismic interpretation and petro physical analysis of the Ghauspur area of the Central Indus Basin. The area is situated in the south-eastern margin of the Indian plate, geologically lying in the Panu Aqil Graben. The aim of this thesis is to describe the subsurface geology by means of the interpretation of seismic data and to understand the potential reservoir formation for hydrocarbons using petro physical analysis. The acquired dataset comprised of five 2D seismic lines as well as the wire line log data of Indus-01B well (exploratory). Three horizons were marked using the time-depth chart namely Pirkoh, Habib Rahi Limestone and Sui Main Limestone. The study area is located in an extensional regime and normal faulting is present. The interpretation of the seismic lines shows horst and grabenstructures in the study area. To develop a better understanding of the subsurface structure, two-way travel time, depth and velocity contours were generated. To find out the reservoir potential, petro physical analysis of the well data was done. The zones of interest are evaluated using the generated graphs of volume of shale volume of clean, average and effective porosity, neutron-density porosity, saturation of water and saturation of hydrocarbon. The petro physical analysis of Sui Main Limestone, Dunghan Limestone and Ranikot Sands was done on the basis of caliper, gamma ray, resistivity and neutron-density logs. Both of these formations are proven water-wet reservoirs with high percentages of average and effective porosities and low densities. Sui Main Limestone is the main target reservoir as it is producing in the vicinity of the study area. The area has promising potential for further studies
