| dc.description.abstract | The Meyal study area located in district Attock, near Pindi Gheb, 110 kilometers south-west of Islamabad. The study area bounded by latitudes 33⁰ 11′ 22″- 33⁰ 22′ 28″ N and longitudes 71⁰ 59′ 19″ - 72⁰ 18′ 37″ E is a part of the Meyal block which lies in Northern part of Potwar sub basin. This thesis report presents the structural analysis, 2D seismic of Meyal. Upper Indus Basin. The purpose of this thesis is to describe the subsurface geology through seismic data interpretation. Seismic interpretation of the given data reveals that the study area has undergone severe deformation illustrated by the development of thrusts and back thrusts forming a triangle zone in the subsurface. F1 and F2 faults are acting as major fore thrust faults in north direction while F3 as backthrust fault in southward direction. Pop up structural traps were found due to the backthrust faults. Stratigraphy of area varies from Triassic to Pliocene age in which Patala shale of Paleocene age is acting as source while Sakesar limestone and Chorgali as a reservoir and Kuldana of Eocene age as a seal. Three horizons have been marked Nammal, Sakesar limestone and Chorgali formations of Eocene age and their time, velocity and depth contour maps were generated. Based on the outcomes of the carriedout studies, it is concluded that the area is structurally highly complex and consists of numerous thrust faults that have caused displacement of the strata | en_US |
