Analysis Of Factors Affecting Gender Equality At Household Level

Abstract

This study analysis the factors affecting gender equality at household level in Pakistan. It highlights the affect of peoples perception on gender equality and the affect of income and vice versa. It analysis what factors shape people perception and what causes hurdles to gender equality. A qualitative research was conducted via in depth interviews. It is a cross sectional study. The study locale was F8 sector of Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan and a village in the outskirts of Islamabad called Sanjalian. The study highlighted the main factors on what drives the perception of people and what makes up their cognition. The data collected was analyzed using thematic analysis from the transcribed interviews. The main themes that emerged were culture, religion, society and gender roles. In the income aspect the equality was much better than perceived. Also, a rather new aspect was acknowledged which was inequality towards boys in certain areas of life. The study is significant in its very basic concept as it highlights the aspect of gender equality at household level the base unit of society which is very important because unless the issue is removed or acknowledged at its core, the society cannot develop. It enhances a persons understanding on what the main factors are that affect gender equality at household level and how they can be overcome.
