dc.description.abstract This study investigated the national drinking water policy and its practices in the region of Islamabad in Pakistan. The prime focus of the study was to examine the drinking water policy and the gaps between theory and practices of the citizens against it. This is a qualitative research conducted via in-depth interviews and theory content analyses. It is a cross sectional study. The emerging theme of the study was the lack of implementation of policy which leads people to extract water through alternative systems that are prohibited in policy. Lack of government efficiency to provide basic need of water to its citizen and ignorance towards policy on the behalf of citizens was also highlighted in the study as well. The examination is huge in its exceptionally essential dead as it features the gaps that hinders the effectiveness of the national drinking water policy and practices that are adding more to water scarcity. It sheds light on the alarming situation of water crises and main factors effecting policy efficiency. It suggests how to overcome the barriers to increase policy effectiveness. en_US
