dc.description.abstract The internet is association of thousand of networks and millions of computers across the world that all work together to share information. On net the main lines carry bulk of traffic and are collectively known as the internet backbone. The backbone is formed by biggest networks in the system owned by major Internet Service Providers such as GTE, Sprint and America online. In Pakistan internet was introduced in 1990' s, but at that time it as not commercialized but due to increase in the demand it became commercialized product and now a days every single person use it, whether he is a student, Business man or person related to some other professions .. now a days there are many ISPs which are doing their operation in Islamabad/Rawalpindi like Pak net, Hungama, Cyber net, Shoa.net. This research is based on the enhancement of the services being provided by Internet service companies to the internet users of Rawalpindi/Islamabad. This research is descriptive study, in this research the researcher points out the numerous problems which are faced by the internet users and there causes. Here researcher also point out the confines which are faced by Internet service providers in providing better services. In this researcher the researcher discussed about the different enhancement techniques like DSL, ADSL, SDSL, Cable Internet Service and Wireless Internet services. In this research the researcher discussed about each and every enhancement techniques there scope, limitations which were faced by ISPs in launching of these services. The researcher reached the findings and the conclusion through a comprehensive survey by using survey tools like Interviews and Questionnaires forms to the Internet service providers and to the Internet users. Study concludes that 50% of ISPs users are not satisfied with the customer support services provided by ISPs and more the 50% are facing multiple technical and non technical problems like Busy tones, Disconnection, Slow speed, Low bandwidth etc. Study also conclude that Internet service providers are experiencing different legal problems offered by the Government departments like high Government charges, lack of support and compulsion of buying certain range of bandwidth from PTCL. Improving 'the quality of equipment like use of (fiber optic cables) will enhance the Consistency, reliability and efficiency of the service for the subscriber of Islamabad/Rawalpindi. More over Government support to encourage the open competition in the market by eliminating the monopoly of PTCL and other legal constraints like compulsion of buying bandwidth from PTCL, will definitely reveals a drastically and dynamically improved services to the end users. en_US
