Abstract:
Driver drowsiness is one of the major issues that causes road mishaps. In state of drowsiness driver is half asleep and half awake. It is a serious traffic safety problem as it involves lives of people. Some of these accidents can be prevented, if driver could be warned before he become too drowsy to drive safely. So, there's a need to warn the driver by drowsiness detection. Many drowsiness detection systems are proposed in past but most of them involved hardware and sensors. These systems were difficult to fit in the vehicle and were very expensive. These systems were run on laptops and expensive cameras and other hardware were used. So, we have proposed an android based driver drowsiness detection application. The basic idea is to build an android application for detecting drowsiness and alerting driver. This application will effortlessly run effectively on cell phones and utilize all preferences of cell phone like camera and light weight. This application will help the travel companies to monitor the overall perfonnance of driver and reduce the number of accidents
