Abstract:
Purpose - To investigate what supportive work environments’ effect is on employee
retention and how organizational engagement plays a mediating role.
Methodology & Design - In this research primary data from 300 respondents from various
organizations were analyzed. To access the dimensionality and validity of the study variables
confirmatory factor analysis has been used.
Findings - The results of the following study show that supportive work environment has a
strong effect on employee retention and the organizations which fail in provision of a
supportive work environment face a higher turnover ratio. The sub variables of supportive
work environment and the variable of organizational engagement are positively related
towards employee retention. The results prove that there exists a significant relationship
among supportive work environment and employee retention as the sig value of the
relationship is lower than 0.05.
Implications - The findings of the study will help the managers and employers in Pakistan in
controlling their retention rates and formulating retention strategies accordingly to keep the
optimum level of employees within the organization and to be competitive.
