dc.description.abstract The main purpose of the study is to evaluate hydrocarbon potential of a well named Meyal Well # 10p, Upper Indus Basin, Pakistan. This has been achieved by using complete suite of wire line logs and available well data. This complete set of data is issued by Land Mark Resources, Pakistan with the prior permission of Directorate General of Petroleum Concessions, Pakistan. To complete the above mentioned task, all logs were correlated to mark the horizon of interest i.e. reservoir zone. In our case the reservoir lies in Chorgali Formation, Sakesar Formation and Nammal Formation of Eocene age. After the demarcation of reservoir zone of about 185.3 meter, this zone was then divided into three sub zones. Zone 1 (Chorgali Formation) is 67.1 meter thick, Zone 2 (Sakesar Formation) is 85.3 meter thick and Zone 3 (Nammal Formation) is 32.9 meter thick. The methodology adopted to accomplish this task includes; the measurements for the shale volume by using gamma ray log, porosities of the reservoir zone by density and neutron log, resistivity of water by using resistivity log, saturation of water in the zone of reservoir and hydrocarbon saturation using Archie equation. The research also includes the rock physics part which was performed to evaluate the elastic properties from the geology. For this purpose reservoir zone was also divided into three sub zones. Rock physics primarily uses sonic logs and density logs. Rock physics aims to establish P-wave velocity (Vp), S-wave velocity (Vs), density, and their relationships to elastic moduli κ (bulk modulus) and μ (rigidity Modulus), porosity, pore fluid, temperature, pressure, etc. for given lithology and fluid types. The results for the dissertation were then displayed in the form of excel sheets and graphs for the better approach towards the task. The Petrophysical Analysis and Rock Mechanics of Meyal -10p led to the identification of characteristics to mark the hydrocarbon horizons. en_US
