INVESTIGATION THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN COMMUNICATION CONFLICT AND PROJECT SUCCESS AMONG LAHORE CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS

Abstract

Pakistan is a developing country, due to the development of infrastructure the rate of construction projects increase day by day in Pakistan, the growing rate of the construction sector is 11.5 % of year 2017-2018 while it was 9.5% during the year of 2016-2017. Urbanization is another cause of increasing the rate of construction project. In construction projects there are more than one participant are involved (consultant, sub-contractor and stakeholders). There is a need of well communication system to manage all participant and keep update about project status and many other issues. Aim of this study is to investigate how communication conflict impact on project success. In Pakistan construction industry three dimension of communication are adopted to communicate like formal communication, informal communication and communication willingness and two types of conflict are discuss in this study first one is task conflict and other is process conflict. Role of communication in this study is independent variable and conflict is mediating variable and project success is dependent variable. Target population of this study are registered firms of Pakistan Engineering Council working in Lahore Pakistan. Data of this study variables has been collected through structured questionnaire from 14 construction firms in Lahore Pakistan. Convenient sampling technique are adopt for sampling purpose. Theoretical framework was adapt from previous study from Wu. et al (2017) that is done in Chinese construction industry environment. Structural equation model technique are used to analyze the data by the help of spss20 and Smart-PLS. Result of this study show that task and process conflict positively effect on the project success. Formal communication negatively effect on the project success and formal communication negatively influence on the task conflict. Informal communication and communication willingness shows positively influence on task and process conflict. Here is need to effort of formal communication mitigate the negative impact on task conflict. This study provide better understanding of conflict that create due to poor communication and effect on the project success.
