Abstract:
Floods are one of the destroying environmental hazards. Floods 2010 in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistan caused heavy losses to the infrastructure, urban and agricultural areas. Over a thousand people lost their lives, thousands of houses destroyed, many kilometers of road were affected, and a number of bridges washed away. The research is carried out in one of the neglected village of Nowshehra Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where the whole village was under water. The research is based on three phases, i.e. pre flood scenario, during flood scenario and post flood scenario and the comparison between pre flood and post flood environmental conditions of floods. The selected parameters, i.e. education, health, clean drinking water, food security, economic support, occupational structure, housing and shelter and psychological well being are compared before floods and after floods 2010. Moreover psychological risk assessment is also done to calculate the psychological risks in post flood environmental circumstances. Environmental management plan is also prepared based on five major components for coping with future post flood socio-psychological impacts.
