dc.description.abstract | The present toll collection facilities for tunnels, bridges and turnpikes slow traffic, waste time and fuel, and increase air pollution. Eliminating the need for a toll payment stop would avoid this waste and reduce toll facility operating costs. A single, universally applicable system is described that can eliminate most toll stops and simplify funds transfers. ATMS is an Automated Highway Toll Management System used for collecting the toll automatically. The respective system aims the identification of the vehicle through image processing technology. A unique RFID would be assigned to each driver that is, nothing but a unique identity assigned to each individual vehicle for the digital payment. The ATMS service providers, having a default balance, will assign the unique RFID payment card. In accordance with this unique identification number, all the information will be stored including the toll collection. A camera is attach to the tollbooth at the toll plaza. Whenever the vehicle will pass the range, the camera will capture the registration number of the vehicle while, the driver will pay the toll using the unique RFID card. The amount will be deduct from the card and new balance would be update. In case of insufficient balance, the driver would be facilitate with the charge at request. | en_US |
