dc.description.abstract This research work is done to assess the source rock potential of Chichali Formation and reservoir potential of Lumshiwal Formation in northern part of Punjab Platform. Well log data has been obtained for the northern part of Punjab Platform. Based on geomechanical and petrophysical analysis Chichali Formation is observed to have a higher TOC value in north while shale quantity is decreasing towards the south with replacement of sand content. Petrophysical studies for Lumshiwal formation suggests a 10% to a maximum of 40% porosity with upto 50% hydrocarbon saturation in the region. Geomechanical techniques applied for source rock suggest ductile behavior of Chichali Formation with applied pressure. Increasing sand content although reduces ductility however, TOC values also seems to decrease with increasing sand matrix having an average value of 30%, 50%, 20% and 35% in Nandpur-02, SaraiSidhu-01, Panjpir-01 and Panjpir-05 respectively. Chichali shales from Punjab Platform needs to be further examined in the lab for its geochemical properties for detailed analysis en_US
