Abstract:
Purpose: This research work is carried out with the purpose to assess the influence of green supply chain management practices on pharmaceutical firms’ operational performance in Pakistan. The study through extensive literature review identified four diverse practices of green supply chain management, namely: green procurement, green supplier selection, green information systems, and green product innovation. The association between practices of green supply chain management and firm’s operational performance has been the subject of many research studies; however, results of these studies are yet indecisive. It has also become a problem to identify the suitable green supply chain management practices that could fit with firm strategies and lead to increased operational performance. Furthermore, there are either no or very little work on the green supply chain management practices and operational performance in the pharmaceutical sector, and more specifically in the context of Pakistan. Design/ Methodology/ Approach: A sample of 150 research participants is selected from the pharmaceutical industry to collect data on the identified variables. Survey research design and quantitative approach is considered appropriated to conduct the analysis. Furthermore, the study employed several statistical tools for instance frequency distribution, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and regression analysis to examine the influence of green procurement, green supplier selection, green information systems, and green product innovation on operational performance of pharmaceutical firms. Findings: Results of the study established that green supply chain management practices have statistically significant and positive impact on operational performance of pharmaceutical firms in Pakistan. Moreover, the study suggests that green supply chain management practices should be adopted and implemented by the pharmaceutical industry of Pakistan since it results in reducing costs, waste, toxicity and increase efficiency and productivity
