Impact of effective Supply chain activities carried out in aviation industry: an empirical evidence from New Islamabad International Airport”

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to examine the functions of supply chain domain with reference to projects in context of aviation industry. The paper outlines the view of different organizations to verify the benefits and challenges in adopting the effective supply chain. The paper also emphasize on the role of supply chain activities in achieving the success of the project. Quantitative analysis technique is used to draw conclusion and results. Data were collected through survey using questionnaire and 108 participants completed the survey. Participants were mainly from the aviation industry, contractors at Airport site and firms that are indulge in projects of aviation industry. The findings of this project shows out of five functions of supply chain domain, three of them plays an important role towards success of this project. The other two functions doesn’t have impact on the project as per the data gathered for this paper but the results might differ from country to country and from region to region. The research was being conducted in order to highlight the importance in the eyes of Project Manager and the higher management of the firm. It is pertinent to mention here that researcher focus was on the contractor that has recently completed the installation works at New Islamabad International Airport project. The contractor partially achieved the success with this project but in majority most of the contractors and packages incurred delays and cost overruns. The research somehow limited to the projects that are based on aviation industry and they might differ while doing research in other fields. There are still different segments of projects not consider as vital for success that should be focus of other researchers doing research in this industry. Many articles have published on the aviation industry and similarly in context of aviation projects. This paper will help them in identifying the actual supply chain domain in the project and then aligning it with the project goals and objectives
