dc.description.abstract Researchers recognized the importance of incorporating positive psychology in workplace, lately. It has become very important to understand employee behaviors and the need to focus on career development of employee in the banking sector of developing regions like Pakistan. An assessment of career development opportunities of bank employees was tested in effect of understanding the emotions of their employees and job stress. Furthermore, the mediating effect of employee performance in relationship of emotional intelligence and job stress with that of career development was also evaluated. This research primarily entitles the banking sector of Pakistan. The study conducted covers major six major banks in the twin cities of Islamabad & Rawalpindi and results in this study interprets the intended results and supports the argument in this research conducted. This is a correlational study and it is a quantitative in nature. This study was carried out to describe the relationships between different variables. In this study, we focus on individuals as employees of different banking institutions. Therefore, the analysis unit of this study was individual, as it influenced the career growth of the employees and attempted to identify the factors related to their growth. The sample selected 200 was according to the Morgan sample table with a population of around 550 people from six banks operating in Islamabad / Rawalpindi. Among all 46 banks in Pakistan, six large banks (depending on the number of branches) were selected for data collection purposes. Data was collected using both personal contacts and used reference from colleagues, friends, neighbors etc. Along with employee performance, job stress and emotional intelligence have also a significant impact on career development. It indicates that, if organizations get hold of these predictors, there is a quite apparent possibility of increasing career development in the sector. Out of all the variables selected, employee performance has the highest impact on career development of employees. Emotional intelligence impacts the career development but to a slightly lesser level as compared to employee performance. Job stress has a negative impact on career development.
