The Role of Project Risk Management in Reduction of Failure in Information Technology Projects: A case in Pakistan

Abstract

The main aim of this study is to examine the significance of project risk management in project management for the reduction of failure in information technology projects in Pakistan. The literature review was conducted in this study for the better knowledge and understanding of the role of project risk management in IT projects and their failure. In every project, project management is used to manage a project properly and for this every practice of project management should be, apply which also includes project risk management. The research questions were made according to the research aim and to achieve its objectives. In this study, research methodology discussed in detail and then researcher, which is best fit for the study, chose a certain research methodology and this became a guideline for the researcher. By detail discussion of research methodology, the researcher came into a point to use quantitative research methodology in this study. Data was gathered by conducting surveys in different IT companies in twin cities of Islamabad and by sending online questionnaire to some other IT companies, which are based on other cities of Pakistan. The gathered data was then further analyzed and the researcher used SPSS software to check reliability and validity of data. The results of analyzed data were explained in this study. For data gathering, the researcher used questionnaires, which were designed according to the environment of IT companies in Pakistan. Future recommendations of this study were also explained according to the analyzed results. In this study, risk management in project management is being focused in reducing the failure of IT companies. Further study can be conducted by focusing on any other knowledge area of project management and environment can be different as this study is according to Pakistani IT companies’ environment.
