Abstract:
Purpose:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact selected FIRM practices on
employees’ turnover intentions at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works. Subsequent to
this in this investigation, we intend to consider how employees consider the value of their
importance of compensation, training and development, reward and recognition, working
conditions, performance appraisal system towards their job satisfaction and retention on the
current job.
Methodology:
This research was informative and explanatory in nature which clarified the effects of selected
practices of HRM on staff turnover Intentions at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works.
The participants of the population were selected on the basis of ease of access for a known
population of 3000 employees; therefore, technique of probability random sampling was used.
Questionnaires, prepared on Likertscale, were distributed among the employees of targeted
population of the Company.
Findings: Base on the analysis, it is revealed that Performance Appraisal, Reward and Recognition,
Working Condition / Environment and Training & Development have value of P less than
0.05 i.e. 0.000 and show negative and significant impact on employees’ Employee Turnover
Intentions. Whereas, Salary and benefits has P value more than 0.05, which indicates that
Salary and Benefits provided by the company have positive relation with turnover intention
and have insignificant effect on employees’ Turnover Intentions.
Implications: The results of the study will be useful for the KS & EW for improving the motivation levels,
achieving the job satisfaction of its employees and reduce the turnover intentions. The
management of KS & EW may utilize the findings of the study to improve the selected HR intentions which will in turn increase thepractices to reduce the employee s
organization performance.
