dc.description.abstract The main objective of the study is to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of Fort Abbas-01, Central Indus Basin, Pakistan. Fort Abbas-01 is located in Bahawalpur district, Punjab having coordinates 28o 58′ 31.27′′N and 72o 41′ 53.52′′E. The well under study lies in Punjab platform which is bounded in north by Sargodha High, in south Sukkur rift, in west Sulaiman fold belt and in east Bikaner-Nagaur Basin India. Petrophysical evaluation of Fort Abbas-01 was carried out to highlight the reservoir area which included the selection of zone of interest followed by log interpretation. The volume of shale, porosity, water saturation and hydrocarbon saturation were interpreted by using different logs. On the basis of petrophysical evaluation, prospective zone had been marked from 1468 to 1495 meters in Salt Range Formation. Petrophysical analysis revealed that the prospect zone had volume of shale, effective porosity and saturation of hydrocarbon as 8.19%, 8.83 % and 12.83% respectively. The reservoir zone had very low volume of shale and good effective porosity but water saturation in the reservoir zone was found to be very high, therefore Fort Abbas-01 is considered water wet well. The possible causes of failure of this well may be absence of any potential source rock with significant thickness and distribution and improper seal within, over and around the Cambrian reservoir. en_US
