Abstract:
The current study was based on the topic "Co-morbidity and relationship between substance use and psychiatric symptomatology' '. For this purpose data was collected from rehabilitation center of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The sample size was 150 in which 108 males and 42 females were included. The age of participant was specified between 18-35 years (M=1.62, SD= .642). The substance included in the study was alcohol, cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana, heroin and one category of more than one substance. The number of people who reported in different substance categorized: in alcohol 38, heroine 7, cocaine 13, marijuana 62, ecstasy 4 and those who involved in more than one substance are 26. It showed that most common drug is marijuana among other substance. Symptom checklist (SCL) was used for this purpose which consists of nine subscales. The reliability of these nine subscales are; somatization had .80, obsessive compulsive had .69, interpersonal sensitivity had. 77, depression had .74, anxiety had .76, hostility was .64, phobic anxiety had .70, paranoid ideation had .64 and psychoticism had .67. The result showed the positive relationship between substance use and psychiatric symptoms. Moreover finding also revealed the positive relationship between alcohol and anxiety but no relationship was found between alcohol and depression. Moreover it was concluded that marijuana single and along with other use of substance trigger psychotic symptoms among substance users .. Hence positive relationship was found between different substance included marijuana, cocaine, alcohol with schizophrenia
