Abstract:
With changing dynamics of international system, the states are also going through major reorientations in their interests as well as in their alliances. The prediction of scholars is that the transition of power from West to East is occurring and will soon be evident across the globe. Asia is a heterogeneous and diverse region which is playing a pivotal role in the shift of power from West to East. Asia, if able to cash this opportunity, is likely to become the driver of international system and international agenda as well. However, there are many important players in this strategic power game and each of these players has conflicting interests in this power game. In this age of shifting alliances and interests, a new partnership is seen to be developing between the three key players: Russia, China and Pakistan. Russia is resurging from the fall of Soviet Union at the end of Cold War; China is assertive with its global investments and infrastructure projects and Pakistan is recovering from its security and economic issues, hence, all three states are working to establish a partnership that would serve their global and national interests as well. The most important reason for this partnership is to counter the US influence in the region. The assertive existence of US both militarily and politically in the region raises concerns for Russia and China as both have ambitious plans in this part of the world. With the increasing US-Indo ties and cooperation, Russia-China and Pakistan are all on the same page regarding eliminating the US influence from the arena starting from Afghanistan.
