| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of the study is to carryout geotechnical design for shallow foundation of Pakistan Housing Society, I-12 Islamabad. Soil sampling and laboratory analyses were incorporated to achieve the desired objective. Five bore holes were drilled at different locations to collect the samples from pre-determined depths and different tests were performed on the soil samples that include sieve analysis (Gradation), liquid and plastic limits determination (Atterberg limits), direct shear and unconfined compression test. Through the tests performed, the soil type is found to be clay. As the soil type is clayey, the geotechnical parameters like shearing properties, cohesion, moisture content, grain size and consistency limits are determined and on the basis of above mentioned geotechnical parameters, the bearing capacity is calculated as 1.00TSF. On the basis of allowable bearing capacity, most appropriate and economical recommended foundation for under study site is raft foundation. | en_US |
