dc.description.abstract The present study has been conducted to understand the relationship between bodybuilding and steroids and whether they are worth the risk or not. Anabolic steroids are a class of drugs that are synthetic derivatives of male hormone testosterone, and have been frequently misused by bodybuilders either to enhance performance or to improve strength. The indiscriminate use of anabolic steroids poses immense health hazards even fatal that outweigh the few short term benefits. The concept of perfect body is the most significant factor that has forced bodybuilders both professionals and amateurs to indulge into steroid usage. Bodybuilders that use steroids are much more self obsessed, carry more traits of narcissism and are less empathetic towards others and also believe that using steroids in moderation is not harmful. Steroids can be used safely only by consulting your physician, and under the supervision of a trainer who has knowledge and experience about the proper protocols of using steroids safely. The biggest dilemma is that we have very few qualified and experienced trainers in the field of bodybuilding. However both trainer as well as trainee is equally responsible for all cases related to steroid abuse. Nevertheless it is the responsibility of both trainer and trainee to be aware of steroids, their side effects as well as the proper protocols of using them safely. The reputation of steroids is very poor in every society because of their dysfunctional consequences often fatal. Furthermore, steroids have been internationally banned by medical associations and sports organizations. Therefore many steroid users feel reluctant in admitting their steroid usage since it can result in disqualification, defaming their image and in worst cases permanent loss of career. It is better to stay natural, eating the right diets and training and practicing without the use of steroids. Harming one’s body or getting disqualified are not the right ways of getting things done. The best results come naturally which will be slower in coming as compared to steroids but they will also be long lasting and will have very few side effects. The regulatory authorities should start an immediate crackdown against steroids sold openly over the counter furthermore the bodybuilding federations should start registration of gyms and conduct anti-doping tests to keep a check on steroid usage. en_US
