Abstract:
The issue of religion and politics in social science scholarship goes back to the work of political philosopher Leo Strauss. In his work Strauss addressed the issue of articulation between the phenomenon of religion and that of politics in terms of four concerns. These concerns were: a) Does politics originate out of scriptures or rationality? b) Is monarchical right to rule granted by divinity? c) Is it allowed by scriptures and Divinity that rulers can wage holy wars? d) If there is a discrepancy between religious laws and secular laws which set of laws ought to prevail?
