dc.description.abstract The project is a home automation system with several added features not normally found in currently available systems, create a system with a combination of hardware and software resources to allow the user to control his/her home appliances via wireless medium, say a smart phone. The market regarding this product is currently hot and our approach is to design a system which is lesser in cost and more in features. To this end, appropriate basic hardware was procured from the internet along with the construction of more complex mechanisms designed by the group members using basic tools. Extensive research has been performed to allow the system to be designed from the ground up keeping low cost and customizability in mind. Our designs works with a router, a server board and client board(s) to provide the user with ultimate ease controlling his home system. The client and server work wirelessly sparing the user from messy connections, and to keep the system clean and easy to manage. The difficulty in such an endeavor is analyzed and brainstorming session help to achieve the required goal. What we set out to achieve, we discovered, looks very much possible now, i.e. automating a home system in a completely secured and wireless manner without the current standard of high costs for such a system. en_US
