Abstract:
The motive behind designing this device is simply to assist the visually impaired by
guiding them and navigating them the path, free of obstacles. It will allow the blind
people to explore new environments safely and independently. There are many
existing technologies that increase the independence of the visually impaired, yet
these technologies are still lacking in certain areas. This device will detect the objects
in every direction and will alert the blind person through vibration and voice
navigation. Generally blind people use cane as their traveling aid, so adding a sensor
and a vibration motor we have enhanced the functionality as well as increased the
accuracy of this device. The reason why we opted for the cane option is that mostly
blind people use stick while traveling so that they won’t find it difficult to handle this
device because they are used to of it.
As we know, ultrasonic sensors works at certain height, to resolve this matter we
have used camera in this project. The camera will observe the environment and in the
meantime it will calculate the coordinates of objects and according to the
calculations it will guide the user through voice by telling him to move in right or left
directions respectively.
One of the most important thing we focused on was to make this device light weight
and wearable.
