dc.description.abstract Heterogeneous database integration is the study of integrating data from multiple databases. Due to its importance, the heterogeneity problem has been discussed in almost all fields of study. There are three main challenges that make the heterogeneity problem difficult to solve which are Semantic, Syntactic and Structural Heterogeneity. Conventional Heterogeneous database integration schemes like Deduplication Techniques, Data warehouse and Federated Search lack the capability to solve the heterogeneity problem completely because they cannot deal with Semantic heterogeneity problem efficiently. A Semantic Ontology based solution model is proposed in the thesis that is based on Query Execution Model to integrate heterogeneous databases. Based on proposed model, a SPARQL can be applied on heterogeneous databases using lena API to retrieve semantically similar records. During implementation, two heterogeneous University Library Databases Bahria University Library database and Comsats University Library database are used, and results show the effectiveness and scalability of the proposed scheme. en_US
