During the past decade, it has been observed that automation systems have become a total mainstream. Not just limited to offices, hospitals, and many other industrial domains, but a rise in demand for home automation has also been observed. People prefer to accomplish their tasks in a short span of time and with automated systems, it has been made possible to control things with just a click of button or a tap on the touchscreen terminals. The proposed system aims to automate everyday appliances such as lights, fans, TVs, etc. through voice commands and as well as control signals sent via touch input. To achieve the basic functionalities of this system, a Raspberry Pi is used which serves as the controller of the system, and an Android device that acts as a point of interaction for this system. Both these are connected to a mutual Wi-Fi access point for communication. Raspberry Pi is used to switch on/off the connected devices/appliances whereas the Android device sends control commands to the Raspberry Pi to accomplish Raspberry Pi’s basic functionality. The developed Android application (WiPi Home) has a touch buttons based on-screen remote control with buttons, and each of these buttons correspond to an individual device/appliance connected to the Raspberry Pi. User may also use the voice command activity to control those devices/appliances via voice commands |
