dc.description.abstract The purpose of this research was to find the relation between parenting styles and self esteem. It was hypothesized that there is significant relationship between parenting styles and selfesteem. A sample of 67 students from different universities and colleges of Karachi was collected. There were 32 females and 35 males and the age ranged from 16-24. The average age was 19.22 years. The questionnaires consisted of a consent form, demographic information sheet, Egna Minnen Betraffande Uppfostran (EMBU, Swedish acronym for My Memories of Upbringing) Parent Child Relations Survey (1996) and Rosenberg's Self Esteem Scale (1965). Results seem consistent with the hypothesis that was established as they are showing a significant amount of causal relation between the self-esteem and parenting practices. The score for mother supportive category is r=0.5540, for overprotecting category r=-0.4880 and for mother rejecting category r= -0.335447. The score for father supportive category = 0.537755, father rejecting category r=-0.580061 en_US
