Abstract:
The research was designed to investigate the role of self-esteem and academic
achievement of Pakistan and United Arab Emirates university students and to explore the
gender differences in academic achievement and self esteem. The sample of the study
was 104 girls and boys equally divided on the bases of gender (N=52) from Pakistan’s
university and (N= 52) from U.A.E’s university. In Pakistan the students were selected
through convenient sampling. While in U.A.E, Online survey was created to collect the
data. The age range of boys and girls were from 18-24.Rosenberg self-esteem scale
(1965) was used to assess the self-esteem of the students and the academic achievement
was measured through GPAs of previous semester. The results show that, there are no
gender differences in university level students when it comes to academic achievement
because girls did not outperform boys in academic achievement. However boys
outperformed girls in self-esteem scores. The results also showed that the self-esteem of
U.A.E students is not significantly different from the self-the self-esteem of Pakistani students;
