dc.description.abstract The aim of this research was to study shyness and its different facets by conducting detailed interviews from shy individuals. 15 shy individuals (7 males and 8 females) were interviewed. Procedure of Grounded theory was used to analyse data and to explore the themes of “living with shyness. Two basic core categories emerged (a) Hardships of shyness (b) Living with shyness. The core category hardships of shyness had two components (a) Backing out and (b) underperforming whereas the grounded theory of living with shyness had 6 basic components: (a) Making sense of shyness (b) Hiding shyness (c)Putting oneself in self conscious situations (d) Bucking oneself up (e) Immersing oneself in the task and (f) Getting through shyness Results also discuss links of shyness with culture, self conscious emotions, friendship and gender en_US
