dc.description.abstract Pakistan is a country where energy cnS1S seems to be the major problem. This country is blessed with abundant solar irradiation (~4.5KWh/m2-day). The country has very limited success to harness solar energy to provide electricity for remote people in rural areas. As a promising renewable alternative to conventional water pumping system for large, medium, and small applications, solar water pumping system has a potential to contribute significantly. Solar photovoltaic pumping is a means to mitigate energy crisis for irrigation in Pakistan. This thesis deals with the design and simulation of a simple but efficient photovoltaic water pumping system. This solar system will pump water from the land which means underground water or nearby creek or river and will replace the use of gas and diesel-powered pumping which is a costly operation for farmers. This new solar system will aim to optimize and use less money in order to pump water to the farm for purposes such as irrigation. At present many farms in Pakistan are using gas and diesel energy to take water from the land for their farming needs. Since the gas and diesel has to be regularly replaced and thus costing farms a substantial amount of money periodically we envision a replacement of gas and diesel energy for solar energy. This project is not only beneficial in terms of its reduced cost. It will be a clean source of energy and will not do damage to the environment and to the nature. Furthermore, it will not harm our earth, and since it uses renewable energy, it will last forever will last forever. en_US
