Abstract:
The present study aimed to determine the relationship between psychological contract breach
and the level of job satisfaction among the employees. It has been hypothesized that there
would be a significant relationship between psychological contract breach and job
satisfaction of employees. The participants comprised of 80 employees, both male and female
individuals between 22 - 60 years from various organizations. The minimum education level
of the participant was graduation (sixteen-year education). In the study along with
demographic information form, psychological contract was measured by using self-report
questionnaire of the Psychological Contract Inventory (PCI; Rousseau, 2000) and short-form
Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ; Weiss, Dawis, England, & Lofquist, 1967) was
I used to measure the level of job satisfaction. The research design was quantitative. Convenient sampling method was used to gather the data. The analysis of result was carried out through the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). Pearson correlation was applied between constructs of Psychological Contract Inventory and Job Satisfaction score of Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire. Correlation was found to be significant between levels of job satisfaction and multiple PCI constructs including quit intention (r = -.232), internal advancement (r= .475), security (r = .478), support (r=.565), external employability (r= .295), stability (r= .455), uncertainty (r= -.417) and mistrust, (i= -.450) which justified the hypothesis that there is a significant relationship between psychological contract breach and the level of job satisfaction among employees. Correlation between other PCI constructs like narrow, growth, loyalty, dynamic performance and restricted environment was not found to be significant. The current study had few limitations which should be considered when conducting future researches in this domain. It would be recommended to have more studies on this topic and an increase in sample size of the organizations based all over Pakistan, so that the results could be generalized to overall region.
