Abstract:
Emotional intelligence is an individual difference variable that focuses on one’s ability to understand and express appropriate emotions in a given context (Mayer & Salovey, 1995) The objective of the study was to explore the relationship between emotional intelligence and leadership style in managers with managerial experience of 3 years and above and ages 25 above, which is divided into 26% females and 74% males. In this study, leadership was measured by transformational and transactional leadership styles and identified by MLQ Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (Transactional; a= 0.707, Transformational; a= 0.789) with 21 items scored on likert type scale and emotional intelligence was measured using Schutte Self Report Emotional Intelligence Test (SSEIT) with 33 number of items scored on Likert type scale (a= 0.769). Positive relationship between leadership style (Transactional and Transformational) with emotional intelligence was found. Through regression analysis, it was concluded that transactional leadership style is a significant predictor of emotional intelligence
