Abstract:
The purpose of the present study was to determine the level of depression among medical university students. It was hypothesized that a) there would a significant relationship between depression and medical students b) there would be a significant difference in the level of depression between medical students of M.B.B.S and B.D.S. The sample size consisted of 60 medical students from different medical colleges of Karachi that are Altamash dental college, Bahria university medical & dental college and Ziauddin medical & dental college, it further comprised of two groups (30 MBBS & 30 BDS) with age range of 18-26. IP AT Depression Scale (Samuel. Krug and James in 1976) was administered on the sample to assess level of depression in medical students. The results showed significant positive correlation between depression and medical students (p < .01, r = .795). The analysis of the results also indicated significant differences between the level of depression among MBBS and BDS (t = -1.606). Avenues for future research have also been suggested, while implication and limitations have been illustrated.
