Abstract:
The current study attempts to investigate the relationship between extraversion and music preferences. The hypotheses tested in this study were: (a) there will be relationship between extroversion and music preferences and (b) there will be significant difference in the music preferences of males and females. Extraversion was measured using items from the HEXACO- PI-R (Aston and Lee, 2000) and the Short Test of Music Preferences - Revised (STOMP-R) (Rentfrow and Gosling, 2009) was used to measure music preferences and from a sample (n=100) of university students aged between 18 and 25 years. The results of Pearson Product Moment Correlation indicated that extraversion is correlated with music preferences and there is difference in the music preferences of males and females but only in reflective and complex subscale of STOMP-R which is in agreement with similar research done in the past.
