Relationship Between Parenting Styles and Self Compassion.

Abstract

This study aimed at exploring the relationship between parenting styles and self. Compassion in young adults. The sample was chosen using convenience sampling from different ) diversities of Karachi. A total sample of 116 participants was collected which consisted of 66 females and 50 males between the age of 18-30 years. It was hypothesized that there would be significant relationship between parenting styles and self compassion. Consent form, demographic form. Parental Authority Questionnaire (Alkharusi, Aldhafri, Kazan, Alzubiadi, & kl-Bahrani, 2011) and Self Compassion Scale (Raes, Pommier, Neff, & Van Gucht, 2011) v/ere administered. Results were analyzed using Pearson Correlation. Results showed that authoritative style of parenting and self compassion (/-.052, /K0.581), authoritarian parenting Style and self compassion (/- -.049,;?<603) and permissive parenting style and self compassion ir= -.157, p<093) had no significant relationship. Results suggested that other factors might / lave an effect on the levels of self compassion.
