Abstract:
Purpose: The purpose of this research study is to determine the impact of job
characteristics on job satisfaction among job holder students in evening and weekend
programs that belong to management science department of Bahria University Karachi
Campus. It helps to extract critical factors of job characteristics that has found relatively
higher impact on employee level of job satisfaction.
Methodology/sample: This research study is explanatory in nature and quantitative. An
adopted questionnaire was used for the collection of primary data as a research
instrument. The targeted populations of current study are job holder students in evening
and weekend programs that belong to management science department of Bahria
University Karachi Campus. The population composed of 600 students and the sample
size is of 253 respondents according to Krejcie and Morgan, 1970 table. The sampling
technique used was Non-probability under convenience sampling. In addition, Cronbach
Alpha, Pearson Correlation, Regression and Co-efficient Correlation tests were applied
using SPSS.
Findings: The findings of the study reveals that job characteristics have a significant
impact on job satisfaction of employees working in different organizations, who belong to
post graduation program of Bahria University Karachi Campus. Skill variety, Task
identity, Task significance, Autonomy and Feedback has a significant impact on job
satisfaction. Thus, all the hypothesis were accepted.
Practical Implications: This research clearly shows that job characteristics improve
employee’s job satisfaction. There is a profound impact on job satisfaction of employees
because employees are satisfied with the job characteristics existing in then-
organizations. The job characteristics model also helps in finding the right fit for the
vacant position. This study provides students of HR with significant understanding of job
characteristics model and its co-integration with job satisfaction of employees. Other
organization may also benefit from this study
