dc.description.abstract Purpose: I his dissertation is explanatory in nature. The purpose of this research study is to find out the status ol selected demographic variables that have impact on the commitment of the employees working at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works. The study empirically tested the impact of various demographic variables, age, gender, marital status, level of education and job category (Managerial or Non Managerial Position in an Organization) on the employees’ commitment. The purpose of study was to explain that to which extent demographic variables of employees have impact on the commitment of employees. Methodology: Using non-probability sampling method, 300 respondents were selected from Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works. Factually, all employees of KS & EW were part of this research study. However, due to distinct limitations like time, finances and un accessibility to all respondents etc.,sample was used to conduct the study. Quantitative research technique has been opted to complete this research study. Deductive approach was used in this study. First of all literature was sifted in detailed way. The conceptual framework of relevant variables emerged from the literature study. Hypotheses were made in lines with the conceptual framework. Similarly, questionnaire was made to cover all research perspective. Data was collected through the questionnaire instrument and integrated/ analyzed using SPSS package. Demographic analyses, mean analyses, one sample l-tcst and correlation test were conducted. Hypotheseswcre analyzed on the basis of one sample t-test while considering significance level of variability. Findings: The study found that most of the demographic variables have significant and positive impact on the commitment of employees employed at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works. Three types of analyses were part of this study, mean analyses, hypotheses testing using one sample t- test statistics and correlation. Age, marital status of employees, level of education and job category were proved to have impact on the commitment of employees. However, gender was only variable which was not related to the commitment oi employees in this study. Thus overall impact of demographic variables was ascertained as positively related to commitment of the employees. The findings also point to an indirect perspective of employees’ commitment that in order to keep the employees committed, organizations need to pay more attention towards other organizational based variables ol motivation too. lienee weaknesses of motivation arose due to demographic trails of employees may be accommodated through organizational support. Practical Implications: The findings of this dissertation have direct impact on Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works over which this research study has been conducted. However, the findings arc equally significant for other marine related organizations as well as other public and private organizations of Pakistan. The research study also contributes towards assimilation of new insights in the existing literature of organizational commitment.Hence, firms may chalk out such strategies that cope up with the demographic diversity of employees which have grave impact on the commitment of employees. en_US
