Abstract:
Potwar Sub-basin is part of the Himalayan foreland and an important petroleum province in north Pakistan. Hydrocarbons are commonly produced from Cambrian to Eocene clastic and carbonate reservoirs. Objectives of this research work include 2D seismic interpretation of the area delineating the subsurface structureand estimation of crustal shortening. Migrated seismic lines of MEYAL area were obtained for carrying out this study. The study contains four dip lines trending S-N andone strike line trending E-W. Three Formations Chorgali, Sakesar, and Nammal were marked to investigate the geological structure present in the area. Time and depth contour maps show Pop-Up structure. Estimation of crustal shortening confirms the thrusting in the area.
