Abstract:
The objective of this dissertation is to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of selected wells from Mari gas field and correlate the lithology by using basic concept of sequence stratigraphy. Two wells Mari deep # 6 and Mari deep # 9 are used for this purpose. Geographically the study wells lie in district Ghotki, Daharki. It is situated approximately 100 km from Sukkur. The coordinates of Mari deep # are 69 47’ 10.518’’E and Latitude 27 54’ 56.887’’ N and Mari deep # 9 coordinates are 69 45’ 27.16’’ E, and 27 53’ 47.46’’ N. Tectonically, the study area is present in Thar Plateform, Central Indus Basin. Indus Basin is separated from the Southern Indus Basin by Jacobabad High. It is bounded by Indian Shield in the east, Indian Plate marginal zone in west, and Sukkur rift in south which is comprised of Jacobabad and Mari Kandhkot High that separates Central Indus Basin from Lower Indus Basin. This study has been done by using wire line log data of respective well data. This data was issued by Land Mark Resources, Pakistan with prior permission of Director General of Petroleum Concession, Pakistan. The methodology adopted to accomplish this task includes; the calculation of shale volume using gamma ray log, porosities of the reservoir zone by density and neutron log, resistivity of water by using spontaneous potential, saturation of water in the zone of interest and hydrocarbon saturation using Archie equation. Lower Goru Formation is acting as a reservoir in the study area. Three zones of interest have been marked in Mari deep # 6 while three prospect zones are present in Mari deep # 9. Lower Goru Formation show Type 1 sequence and most of formation show progradation.
