Abstract:
Kadanwari block is located in Central Indus Basin, district Khairpur, Sindh province, Pakistan. Tectonically, it lies in extensional regime near the southern end of Sukkur rift. Lower Goru Formation is acting as a reservoir. The main rationale of this study is to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential using well log data of Kadanwari-01 and Kadanwari-10 and the subsurface formation distribution through correlation of well tops. Detailed petrophysical analysis revealed good porosities of the reservoir zone in both wells. HCM index indicated gas in Kadanwari-01 and oil in Kadanwai-10. In shale content of the reservoir, the clay flakes are less respective to silt size minerals due to which the effective porosities are excellent. In Kadanwari-01 the shale mode is dispersed which is not the case in Kadanwari-10. Different cross plots depict the major lithology to be sand in both wells. Moveable hydrocarbons in both the well are reasonable, making the recoverability factor high enough for hydrocarbon to be produced with natural uplift. Net pay to gross ratio in Kadanwari-01 is 85% while in Kadanwari-10 is 77%. Both stratigraphical cross section and isopach map indicate the reservoir rock to be thickening in the south-eastern direction. Exploration companies must make sure to explore south-eastern side because of high probability to hit major thick reservoirs.
