Abstract:
The objective of the study was to investigate perceived parental support as a predictor of academic stress and psychological well-being among young adults. This would create awareness that parental support provides assistance of students that how to deal academic stress and enhance psychological well-being. The study measured the following hypothesis: (a) There is a negative relationship in the parental support and academic stress (b) There is a positive correlation between perceived parental support and psychological well-being among young adults (c) There is a gender difference in the perceived parental support, academic stress, and psychological well-being. The sample of the study involves 104 male and 158 were female. The study utilized the following three scales. Perception of parent scale (Robbins, 1994) Lakaev Academic Stress Response Scale (LASRS, 2016) and (Flourishing Scale 2010) were used. Correlation, t-test and Standard Multiple Regression analysis were applied in order to compute the results. The results for correlation suggest that there was a significant negative correlation in parental support and academic stress. And the second hypothesis result revealed that there was positive relationship between two variables. The results of t- test concluded that there was significant difference in the level of Parental Support among male and female. The study paves way for future researches to be conducted to evaluate other stressors among students. And parents should provide support to children in all stages of life.
