Structural and Stratigraphic analysis, to map the distribution of Cretaceous sand bodies in Miano area, Central Indus Basin of Pakistan (T-1479) (MFN 6267)

Abstract

The study area Miano is located in Central Indus Basin of Pakistan. The area has great structural and stratigraphic significance for hydrocarbon exploration perspective. The area is bounded by normal faults and consists of formations from early Mesozoic up to the present Cenozoic. The research target is to perform structural interpretation and mapping the depositional geometries of cretaceous sand bodies with the help of seismic, well correlation and isochron mapping. Synthetic seismogram is used to tie well with seismic data which shown good match. Seismic interpretation resulted in generation of time, depth maps and identification of fault complexity within the study area. The structural interpretation suggested east west dipping and north south trending normal faults passing through different marked horizons from jurrasic to palocene. Negative flower structures with minimal throws along faults are present in the area. Log based stratigraphic correlation helped to map the depositional geometry and variation of B sand of Lower Goru formation. The B sand of Lower Goru is proven reservoir in the area so it is significant to study its depositional geometries. Overall the B sand is continuous in northeastern direction and its limited in western and southwestern flank.
