dc.description.abstract In today’s busy life, it is essential for studying or working people to be able to get up on time to correctly follow their schedule. Alarm clocks are tools that are frequently used by the people of different ages as reminders or as a way of getting up on time. The problem that arises in many cases is that a significant number of people are capable of sleeping through conventional alarms or are able to wake up just enough to shut off the alarm and then go back to sleep. This is a serious problem since timely arrival is so important; not getting up on time could potentially lead to severe problems in other areas of a person’s life. The system proposed here is an attempt to prevent the problems of conventional alarms while at the same time focusing on being more effective. An alarm clock that forces the user to wake up enough to shut off the alarm that there is little chance of unintentionally going back to sleep. The proposed system is based on the logic that if enough brain activity is stimulated during the shutting off of the alarm, then the user will have woken up enough to stop themselves from falling asleep again. In short, the proposed system consists of a pictorial puzzle that forces the user to select a correct sequence of images for the alarm to shut off and changes the tune on a correct decision to further stimulate the user’s thought process. Along with this, the system further provides a complete time package with stopwatch and timer capabilities as well. Since most people use their smartphones to set alarms, the best and most convenient way of addressing the aforementioned existing problems is to make a smartphone application of the proposed system. Android is the most commonly used smartphone operating system which is why the proposed system will be most effective if designed for this platform. For this purpose, the Android Studio IDE will be used to create an application that is both interactive and supportive of the latest versions of the platform for maximum compatibility. en_US
