Abstract:
The aim of this research is to apply an accurate path loss prediction technique in order to demonstrate the need for a precise accounting of the refraction and ducting when planning future radio networks. In wireless communication, propagation loss is a notable concern. The propagation losses also occur due to variation in refractivity. Finding radio refractivity is important in order to design a better communication channel. In this work, a relationship between signal strength and refractivity profile is investigated. This outcome, if known, gives an advantage to vendor and operator, especially while designing a proper communication channel. In this thesis, a relationship between refractivity and propagation of the radio signal infers opposite relation between them (i.e. refractivity mitigates signal level) the greater refractivity means lower signal level. Nevertheless, the measurements reveal that in several points when refractivity was high (more particularly around the afternoon time and in the morning when the fog was high), the quality of the signal strength was low and at the points when the refractivity was low (more particularly during the day when humidity was low due to high temperature) the signal strength was higher. Along these lines, the higher refraction means lower signal strength in the troposphere, i.e., they are inversely related to each other.
