Abstract:
Photovoltaic (PV) systems are gradually becoming the key renewable source of electrical energy because it has zero pollution and limitless energy. But, the nonlinear characteristics of the solar system require some special technique to harvest maximum power from PV systems and that technique is known as Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technique. Although enormous MPPT techniques have been anticipated in literature, each endures its own advantages and disadvantages. This thesis proposes a novel two-stage technique to enhance the performance of PV system. Our proposed technique eliminates the limitations of Incremental Conductance (InC) under rapid changing environmental condition. It improves the efficiency and reduces the oscillation power loss under steady state. The proposed technique is a two-stage algorithm which uses Fractional Short Circuit Current (FSCC) and variable step sized Incremental Conductance (InC) technique to extract maximum power from PV systems. Initially, the FSCC forces the PV system to work near MPP and then InC technique track the exact peak. Matlab/Simulink software is used to implement the proposed technique and the quality of the proposed technique is judged under rapidly changing environmental conditions.
