Abstract:
Fast food is convenient food but is made up of low nourishing ingredients. The purpose
of this study is to determine the factors for increasing trend of fast food and its
consequences. Due to westernization this trend is increasing with the rapid rate and to
know the factors, data is gathered from primary and secondary sources. Secondary data is
gathered from articles and case studies and is helpful in selecting the variables and these
previous studies have reviewed to rationalize results. Primary data is gathered through
questionnaire which is used as data collection instruments. Microsoft Excel is used for
tabulation, charts and graphs. T-test is performed with the help of SPSS. Independent
variables which are selected to conduct thesis are changing lifestyle, rising income and
media. From the results of the questionnaire it has been analyzed that fast food
consumption is increasing due to changing lifestyle, rising income and media awareness.
Nuclear families consume more fast food as compared to joint families and youngsters
have more passion to spend money on fast food as they find it as an element for
socialization. People prefer fast food whenever desire because of its taste and
socialization. Working class prefers it due to its convenience and time saving nature. As
the age increases fast food consumption decreases. Despite of its pros, its excessive
consumption leads to various cons as its consumption is avoiding of proper nutrition. Fast
food consumption has effects on health, economy and family. Its consumption leads to
obesity and other diseases. Obese person is less productive and do not perform work in an
efficient manner. Increasing trend of fast food has its consequences on economy because
of the opening foreign company’s franchises such as KFC and Pizza hut due to which
profit is leaving our state. Communication gap has also occurred in families due to
increasing trend of fast food. Prolong consumption of fast food needs to be prohibited.
