Abstract:
It’s widely said and proven that for an organization the Human Recourses Department
manages the work force and align them with the objectives of the organization to move in
one direction. But now the emerging concept of high performance and productivity with
cost effective methods is a challenge worldwide. An employee can be trained and equipped
with tiemendous skills and technology but the motivation and willingness to perform
maximum at work is still a challenge for any human resource professionals to bring in. A
framework or a method is needed to keep employee engaged and motivated, and not only
focus merely on motivation but also increase performance. Therefore a concept of
employee engagement and performance is a new focus for researchers and practitioners.
Employee engagement is a two-way mutual process between the employee and the
organization. Highly motivated employee can exert his energy in his work but without
proper performance feedback, employee cannot be a consistent performer. By
understanding the relationship between employee engagement and performance, an
organization can prepare strategic plans to increase revenue and sustainability.
In this research, we have studied the concept of employee engagement and employee
performance in the context of organizations in Pakistan and how employee engagement
impacts the performance over all in the organization. Thesis introduction with statement of
problem along with research methodology is presented in the first two sections. Theories
of employee engagement and its benefits are discussed in detail with references in the
literature review. The data shows that in Pakistani organization, people are aware of the
term employee engagement and performance measurement but its useful implications and
its linkage requires attention. The concept of employee engagement is to be introduced and
implemented properly for getting productive results. The world is now operating on these
concepts and Pakistani organizations need to adopt and adapt as per methodologies that
increase organizational efficiency.
